Frequently Asked Questions
When I order a print, how will it come to me?
Prints are double-matted and sent via US postal service unless otherwise specified. Photo session prints are not matted, but instead are sent together as a package.
Are prints of your images available in sizes larger than what is shown on the website?
Yes. If there is an image you particulary like, and you would prefer a larger size than what is shown, please send an email indicating the photo and size requested. We'll let you know if the size you want is available for that particular print.
Will my photo look exactly like what I see online?
Not exactly. Images are cropped slightly when printed, and the final image will depend on the dimensions you've selected. However, each photo has been cropped so that it looks nearly identical to the image you see online. Also, generally speaking, the printed versions of the images look better than they do on the Internet. Looking at the site using different computer monitors can change the overall look of color of the images you see.
How do I go about booking a photo session?
To book a session send an email to photographer@alongthebackroads.com. We'll get back to you about the time slot you've requested.
Where will my photo session take place?
Your photography session will take place at a location of your choosing. This can be at your home, a park, or a place which is important to you. If you’re feeling a little bit adventuresome, we can scout a location such as an old building, alleyway, or even in an empty field—you choose it…the only limits are imposed by you.
When is the best time to have photos taken?
Sessions are generally booked either in the early morning or late afternoon so as to utilize the optimal lighting of these times.
How do I view my session photos to make final choices?
Approximately 2 weeks after your session, you'll be emailed a link to an online gallery from which you may place an order. This gallery will be availiable for 2 weeks and will then be removed. There is a $10 fee to have the gallery put back online for an additional two weeks.
Who else can view my gallery once it is online?
Whomever you choose to share the URL with can view the photos from your session.
Can extended family members order photographs from my session as well?
Yes, anyone whom you've given us permission for may order from your proofs.
What is your favorite age of children to photograph?
That all depends on the temperament of the child. I actually enjoy all different ages for different reasons.
What type of camera do you use?
I started off with a Kokak 110 about a million years ago, and have been through nearly a dozen cameras since that time. I currently shoot with a Canon Mark II and I do have a Canon PowerPro as my backup.
Do you ever shoot with film?
Please, we’re in the digital age. I will admit that I did shoot with film until about 2005 off and on. Today, I am strictly digital.
Do you offer workshops or helps to other photographers?
At the current time, no. The main reason for this is that I have trouble trying to pat my head and rub my stomach at the same time—plus I simply do not have the time. By trying to ‘teach’ someone else during a photo session, it takes away from what I am doing in the moment and something is lost.
How long have you been photographing people?
Well, if we’re counting from my first camera…somewhere in the vicinity of 20 years. However, I’ve been professionally taking photographs for the past seven years.
What do you do when you’re not being a photographer?
I teach 5th grade. I spend a vast majority of my time working with the kids in my class. After school I am usually taking part in a homework club or some other extracurricular activity for my students.
Do you have a favorite photograph? If so, which one?
Yes, I do have a favorite, however, like a proud father, I cannot say it aloud for fear that all the rest will get jealous.
Do you plan on adding more letters to your Alphabetography site?
This is always in the works. Letters will be added to as often as I find new, interesting images.
Where is your favorite place to take photos?
Usually, wherever my subjects want. However, I enjoy traveling to southern Utah and taking photos of places most people don’t ever get to see.
What’s the longest amount of time you’ve ever spent out on a photoshoot?
Three weeks. This was quite the little adventure down in southern Utah. I ended up at Lake Powell, Zion, The San Rafael Swell, Escalante, and places I can't even remember the names for. My family probably thought I was dead.
Is there sales tax on purchases from your site?
Yep, the old standard...6.75%
