I've fixed all of the links and I'm pretty sure that everything is working properly now. Over the past two days I went through most of the photographs I've taken over the past two or three years. I couldn't believe just how many great shots I let sit on my external hard drive in darkness and obscurity.

As of today I've added approximately 85 new prints and 75 images from photography sessions.

Am I done?

Not quite yet. Over the next week or two, even more images will be added as I have the time to size them down, write the code, and integrate them into the website.

Thanks for stopping by.

I wanted to let everyone know about a contest going on for Backroads Photography. All you need to do is make a comment - and get some of your friends to do the same. Full details are available HERE.

As you've probably noticed, I've started to update the photos on the site. For the next week or two, the links to purchase these new additions will not be available; if you try to click them, nothing will happen. I guess this is the price one pays when they are the webmaster as well as the photographer. The prices for each of the prints is saved on the template I have and I will have to go in and manually change them (along with everything else); however, I don't plan to do this until I get all of the photos updated (give me some time here) and then I'll need to also need to update the information at PayPal so that the links will do something. Then again, I just might get crazy and change it all up and go with some other method.

Trade-offs, gotta love them.

You'll also notice that the portrait galleries are being updated as well. I realized that I hadn't added new photos for quite some time. With a few days off for the weekend, I decided that this was the time...please be patient if links are dodgy for a bit, and if some of the photos which were here previously are missing. I am reteaching myself how I built this site in the first place...

You can check out another recent photoshoot HERE.

While I don't post photos from every session I do, there are two which I felt merited mention here. The first is a family which always prefers to have a shoot done in 'normal' clothes while the second always has a distinct theme to it. I'll bet you could guess what they picked this time by clicking here.

The one of the shoots I took two weeks ago was a life session of a young boy who I simply captured moments in his life. In a word: magical. I share the images with you here or the slideshow here.

I've not been the greatest at keeping things updated lately...call it life, call it work, call it all of those little things which make us who and what we are. I completed a few photoshoots over the past month or so which were great. The families were all amazing and a lot of fun to take images of. Each of the shoots may be seen by clicking here for the first, here for the second, and here for the most recent. Oh yes, there'll be another addition to the last shoot in a day or three, but it just might not be what you expected.

It’s not often that a photographer gets a photoshoot of his own; good thing that my mom is a photographer as well. These images can be viewed here.

I am currently housed up in Sandpoint, Idaho and completed a photoshoot recently in Spokane, Washington; some of these images may be viewed here.

Last week I did a photoshoot of a local baseball team. I did not post all of the photos I took, but those I did can be viewed here.

On Thursday I had the opportunity to photograph a young boy who used to have the most amazing locks of brown hair. His mom admitted to me that since summer was rapidly approaching, and the temperature was steadily increasing, he wanted to buzz his head.

The call was sounded and we sprang into action; we agreed to meet on Thursday afternoon—the day of reckoning. Originally we’d planned to meet up at a nearby park, but I found myself thinking instead of another location—that of a train yard I pass nearly every day. I’ve always wanted to do a photoshoot in the area, and I decided that today would be a good day. I quickly called the boy’s mother and she readily agreed to meet me at the new location.

It was a good choice.

This boy was a lot of fun to photograph, and we were able to capture several wonderful images. I’m glad we did because when I saw him the next day he did indeed have most of his hair missing.

I had the opportunity to do a quick photoshoot this past Saturday in the rain of three brothers. It was a lot of fun and the photos turned out rather nice even though we were limited to only a little bit of time before the rain began to come down in bucket loads. These are a couple of my favorites from the shoot.

I also took a few shots while out in the San Rafael Swell Desert. While I still haven't gone through them all, I have posted a few which I particularly liked. I am excited for this summer and the scope of opportunity it will offer for additional photoshoots

March 27, 2009

I was asked again if I would run the contest offering a free 8 x 12 print from this site, or from my blog (click on the 'photo' label to see a larger variety of shots...not all have been added to the website). I have decided that I would go ahead - after all, it's been awhile since I had a contest like this.

“So, what are the rules?”
I am so glad you asked…

  1. Browse the site.
  2. Make a comment HERE about what you think. Be sure to leave a name of some sort (blog identities work well).
  3. Pass along the link to alongthebackroads.com to a friend and have them make a comment at the above site as well—adding to the note, “So-and-so sent me.” (Obviously inserting your name, or that would be really hard to track now wouldn’t it...a whole group of so-and-sos).
  4. For each person who mentions your name as their “referrer” you will get one additional tally toward your overall score. The person who actually comes by gets one too. The two individuals who refer the most “browsers” to the site will be eligible for a free matted print when the contest ends on Sunday, April 5th at midnight, Mountain Standard Time.
  5. I do ask that when somebody makes a comment, they do so using their blogger/wordpress/ect., blogging account. After all, it would be far too easy to simply type a bunch of “anonymous” comments and do a lot of self-promoting now wouldn’t it?
  6. On April 6th check back on the comments, tally up your score, and then the two people with the most referrals send an email letting me know the print they’d like sent.

Feel free to email with any questions you have and good luck!

photographer@alongthebackroads.com

P.S. If you've won once before, you aren't eligible to do so again...sorry Gerb, Summer, Cjane, & Karen.

Last weekend I had the opportunity to take a set of bridals. While I have only taken photos at wedding receptions a few times, this opportunity for bridals was the first. Images can be viewed HERE.

January 25, 2009

I was able to head to southern Utah for a small break. Naturally, I took my camera along with me. These two links are to my two latest photo ventures.

Enjoy.

January 1, 2009

It’s been a busy week for me; three shoots in four days. Of course, they were also a lot of fun as well as exhausting. One thing I love about photography is that I am able to meet new people and catch a snapshot into their life. With a little help, we’re able to capture moments which are never to be repeated again, together.

December 5, 2008

Things are keeping me busy as usual. I did take a few days to go to Hurricane, Utah for Thanksgiving. While I was there I had the opportunity to do a photo session for a friend of mine and her family.

I was delayed in my journey back northwarad and to the desert; therefore was only able to capture a few images before the light faded on me and I was left in darkness. I decided to try something a little new with night shots (which I’ve been experimenting with quite a bit lately) and I was able to get a few images.

November 24, 2008

I have had the last few of my photoshoots take place in and around Spokane, Washington. It had been awhile since I’d been back to the apple capital of the nation, and I was amazed at just how much things had changed over the past few years.

My first shoot was of a wedding (my third wedding so far) and it was wonderful because the rain stopped long enough to complete the shots, and then it started to drizzle again a bit later. I was a bit worried about the lighting, but it turned out very nice as there was no direct sunlight and distinct shadows on those present.

I also made an impromptu shoot in Freeman, Washington by an old, weathered barn which turned out rather nicely.

Finally, I was able to do a last shoot while I was traveling to the airport, which was unfortunately hurried because of my needing to catch a flight so it only lasted about 10 minutes. The weather wasn’t the most accommodating, however, it has worked out in the end. Hard to believe that this last shoot was actually taken in drizzling rain, isn’t it?

If you’d like to see any other shoots I’ve done, simply click HERE. There will be a few entries as well, but finding those with photos shouldn't be too hard.

Thanks for stopping by!
